According to the rumors, one of the alleged features of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 is an in-display fingerprint scanner. So far there aren’t too many phones that actually use such a scanner and it would be interesting to see Samsung implement it in their handsets. Of course whether they will remains to be seen, but it looks like the company is interested.
This is thanks to a recently discovered patent in which it appears that the company has patented the idea for an in-display fingerprint scanner. According to the patent, Samsung has come up with a system in which the scanner can be placed not just under the cover glass of the phone, but also to the sides of the device, meaning that there is more flexibility when it comes to its placement and also design of the handset.
Note that this is actually not the first time that we’ve seen Samsung patent an idea for an in-display fingerprint scanner, but the fact that we’re seeing multiple patents for the idea does hint that the company is interested in it. However patents are tricky things because they might simply be an idea that Samsung is trying to protect, and that it’s hard to tell if and when they might actually make it a reality, so try not to get your hopes up just yet.
