Latest iOS 12 Beta Confirms HomePod’s Ability To Make Phone Calls

A report from earlier this month revealed that in a private beta testing of HomePod OS 12, it was discovered that Apple could be getting ready to launch a feature for the HomePod in which it would support making phone calls. For those wondering about it, you’ll be pleased to learn that the reports were true.

In a new report from 9to5Mac, it has been discovered that in the latest version of the beta for iOS 12, it has been revealed that phone calls will be a feature that will be making its way to the HOmePod. This will be a pretty major feature although it seems to be one that Apple should have included earlier.

As it stands the HomePod does support calls, although it acts more as a loudspeaker than anything. Users will need to initiate calls on their iPhones first, and because the HomePod can’t access the contacts on your phone, it also means that users won’t be able to use Siri on the HomePod to make a call to someone.

Presumably this update will change that, although since there is no public or developer beta preview for HomePod OS (yet), we’ll have to wait until the actual release of the update to get a better idea of how this will work.
