With our smartphones are more than capable of taking great photos, you would think that the compact camera category would be long dead by now. However there are various advantages to taking photos and videos with compacts, namely that in some instances they are better than smartphones, they offer features that our phones don’t, and also they won’t drain your phone’s battery.
If you are in the market for a new compact camera, then following a series of leaks, Canon has since unveiled the PowerShot SX740 HS. This is the company’s latest take on a compact camera and thanks to it featuring a 40x optical zoom lens, it means that users will have the option of going wide or zooming into their subjects if they prefer.
This is also an advantage over smartphones in which sometimes the zoom can be limited, and due to the size of the sensor, you end up losing a lot of details when you crop. The SX740 will feature a 20.3MP CMOS sensor that is also capable of capturing video in 4K resolution, which according to Canon is a first in the PowerShot series.
It will also be powered by Canon’s DIGIC 8 image processor, dual-sensing image stabilization, automatic image transfer, a 180-degree rotating 3-inch display, and built-in WiFi and Bluetooth. If this sounds like camera you might be interested in, the PowerShot SX740 HS is priced at $400 and will be available for purchase late August.
