OnePlus Is Killing It In The Indian Premium Smartphone Market

Due to the fact that different countries have people with different needs, different priorities, and different budgets, there are reasons why some companies can thrive and why some can’t. Take for example companies such as Nokia and BlackBerry, both of whom continued to thrive in certain markets long after their popularity waned in the US.

Now it seems that over in India, OnePlus is killing it against more established players such as Samsung and Apple. According to the data from market research firm Counterpoint Research, it seems that OnePlus accounts for 40% of the premium smartphone market (defined as phones priced Rs 30,000 and above) in India in the second quarter of 2018.

The report also reveals that OnePlus, Samsung, and Apple accounted for 88% of the overall premium market, and while this seems like a big figure, a quarter ago that figure was 95% so if anything, it seems that some of their market share is being stolen by other competitors from China, such as Huawei and Vivo, along with HMD Global and LG.

Counterpoint’s report also claims that the OnePlus 6 is the best-selling smartphone in the premium market followed by Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and the OnePlus 5T. Neil Shah, Partner and Research Director, IoT, Mobile and Ecosystems, Counterpoint Research was quoted as saying, “The steady focus on high-end flagship smartphones and unprecedented community connect helped OnePlus earn user trust and spread brand awareness through word of mouth.”
