Rocket League Ultimate Edition Announced For Nintendo Switch

Last year Rocket League launched for the Nintendo Switch. However if you’ve yet to get your hands on the game, you might be interested to learn that Psyonix has since announced Rocket League: Ultimate Edition that is expected to make its way onto the Nintendo Switch on the 28th of August.

The game will be priced at $49.99 which you might have noticed costs $10 more than the regular version of the game. However this is the Ultimate Edition which means that it is expected to contain additional items such as various DLC packs for the game, which includes the Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice Car Pack, the Chaos Run DLC Pack, the DC Super Heroes DLC Pack, the Revenge of the Battle-Cars DLC Pack, the Supersonic Fury DLC Pack, along with Aftershock, Esper, Marauder, Masamune, Proteus, Triton and Vulcan DLC Battle-Cars.

Now you might think that the $10 price hike is because of the bundled content, but according to Psyonix, “As many of you have likely noticed, the MSRP for Rocket League Collector’s Edition is $10 more on Nintendo Switch than the same version on other platforms. As much as we tried to keep the retail price down, the reality of the Switch’s increased cartridge manufacturing costs meant that the MSRP had to be higher as well.”

In any case an extra $10 isn’t too much to ask for given what you’ll be getting, so if you don’t mind the extra $10, then keep an eye out for its release later this month.

Possible Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Release Date Revealed

Samsung has confirmed that come 9th of August, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will be officially revealed. So the question is with a 9th of August unveiling, when will the phone be actually released? According to a recently spotted poster over in Korea, it seems that the phone could be released on the 24th of August.

The poster in question seems to be put up by retailers who have also revealed some of the pre-order gifts that customers can expect, which includes grip rings, power banks, cases, car chargers, wireless pads, and more. We’re not sure how accurate the 24th of August release date is, but it isn’t that much of a stretch to think that it might be true.

This is because based on previous releases, Samsung typically takes a couple of weeks from the product’s announcement to the product’s release, so barring any unforeseen delays or setback or a change in tradition, the 24th of August seems like a possible release date. Safe to say that you should take this with a grain of salt for now, but like we said the official unveiling is set for the 9th of August which means that we’ll have all the official details in about a week’s time.

Alleged Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro Specs Revealed

Huawei is set to launch a new flagship smartphone later this year in the form of the Huawei Mate 20. We’ve heard some rumors about the upcoming phone in the past, but now thanks to the folks at XDA, they’ve managed to get their hands on additional information about the upcoming phone thanks to firmware files obtained by @FunkyHuawei.

So what can we expect from the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro? Assuming the firmware is accurate, the upcoming phones will be powered by Huawei’s Kirin 980 chipset, which apparently will be capable of hitting maximum clock speeds of 2.8GHz. It is also said to be manufactured using the 7nm process which should result in better performance and power efficiency.

The Mate 20 is also rumored to feature a massive 4,200mAh battery which combined with the 7nm chipset should help it to last more than a day. The phone is also said to feature a 6.3-inch AMOLED display but it is unclear if the Mate 20 Pro will feature a similar-sized display or if it could feature a larger screen.

The phones are also rumored to feature 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and will also support wireless charging. There is no mention of the camera, but given that the P20 and P20 Pro differentiated themselves from each other with a triple lens camera (in the P20 Pro), maybe the same can be said for the Mate 20 Pro.

Take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we’ll have the official details in the coming months.

Valve Adds Scam Protection To Steam Following Sale Of Counterfeit Items

how to family share on steamWhile Steam’s marketplace is a great place to trade or sell in-game items, some of which can be extremely valuable, it has created problems in the past, such as gambling due to the valuable nature of these items. More recently it has also created another problem: scams, in which some developers were releasing games containing counterfeit items.

These items were created to masquerade as Team Fortress 2 and DotA 2 rares that could sell for hundreds, which explains the lure behind them. However the good news is that Valve has caught on to these scams and have since removed the offending games, and are now putting into place scam protections that will help prevent these scams from even happening in the first place.

In a post on the Steam subreddit, Valve developer Tony Paloma said, “We also started requiring approval for app name changes, and have more planned to address this sort of problem that we couldn’t get done in one day. We are hopeful that having to dismiss two warning dialogs will be sufficient to make people think twice about trades containing forged items, but this is not the end of our response, and we’ll continue to monitor, of course.”

There is also good news for those who have been scammed, where those who fell victim to these scams prior to the warning system will get the item they traded for the scam item back.

Netflix & Sony Team Up To Bring ‘Calibrated Mode’ To Sony’s TVs

Due to the fact that all TVs were designed differently, what a TV show or movie looks like on one TV can look different on another, which are marketing points that companies are using to promote their products. However if you’d rather take the guess work out of the equation and watch shows as they were meant to watch, Netflix and Sony might have something for you.

Netflix has recently announced that they have teamed up with Sony to launch a new feature called “Calibrated mode” which have been designed with Sony’s TVs in mind. According to Netflix, “We’re now thrilled to introduce Netflix Calibrated Mode, a new feature developed by Sony picture quality and device experts in collaboration with Netflix color scientists and available exclusively on Sony’s BRAVIA MASTER Series A9F OLED and Z9F LED TVs.”

Netflix adds, “With one simple menu setting, our members can view TV shows, films, and documentaries on Netflix as they were meant to be seen, with precise colors, accurate dynamic contrast, and true motion so there’s no ‘soap opera effect.’” However as Netflix notes, this seems to be only applicable to Sony TVs at the moment.

We’re not sure if there are plans to eventually extend this feature (or something similar) to other TV brands, but for now if you’re a Netflix subscriber with a compatible Sony TV, then this could be a feature to look out for.

Apple Pay Coming To 7-Eleven And CVS Later This Year

Considering how many iPhone users there are out there, you would think that should the opportunity arise to support payment platforms like Apple Pay, retailers would be on board. However at the same time we suppose the idea of transaction fees could have put some off, such as CVS who a couple of years ago decided to launch their own mobile payments solution.

However it looks like CVS might have had a change of heart because according to Apple’s CEO Tim Cook, both 7-Eleven and CVS are expected to support Apple Pay later this year. If you recall, both 7-Eleven and CVS were part of the Merchant Customer Exchange, an alliance that was meant to help cut transaction fees, but given how CurrentC eventually flopped, it looks like 7-Eleven and CVS don’t really have much choice anymore.

This is undoubtedly good news for Apple and Apple users who use Apple Pay as it means that there are more locations that supports its platform. The roll out of Apple Pay to the rest of the world has been a bit slow, but according to Cook, he claims that the market is growing as the company recorded over 1 billion Apple Pay transactions in the company’s third quarter alone.

This is said to represent triple of what they had experienced a year earlier. Speaking of international markets, in addition to 7-Eleven and CVS, Apple Pay is also expected to find its way to Germany later in the year as well.

Apple Claims 4 Million People Have Participated In Their Software Betas

For the longest time ever, Apple has typically kept its software betas limited to developers. However in the recent years, Apple has since opened up its betas to the public where anyone can download the beta for either iOS or macOS to take it for a spin to check out new features and to give Apple some feedback.

Turns out that this was a pretty good idea because during Apple’s recent conference call following the release of their latest financial results, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook revealed just how many people actually participated in their software betas, which according to Cook is around 4 million.

According to Cook, “In June, we hosted an extremely successful developers conference that previewed many major advances coming this fall to our four operating systems: iOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS. Developer and customer reaction has been very positive and we have over four million users participating in our new OS beta programs.”

This is a huge number of users although as AppleInsider points out, given that Apple has never shared such information before, it is unclear as to how this compares to previous years. However we reckon that it is probably big enough that Apple would want to boast about it. That being said, for those who are looking to participate in the various public betas that Apple has available (such as iOS 12 and macOS Mojave), head on over to Apple’s website to sign up.

Hands-On Video Of Alleged Dummy Units Of 6.1-inch & 6.5-inch iPhones

Several days ago, alleged photos of dummy units of the 6.1-inch and 6.5-inch 2018 iPhones were leaked. However for those who are hoping for more information and details about these alleged models, you might be interested to learn that hands-on videos of the dummy units have since found their way online.

This is courtesy of TigerMobiles.com who published the videos that give us a look at the upcoming phones. Note that these are dummy units which means that they were created just to give an idea of the size and design of the phones and that they are not functional. This means that if there are any new features we won’t know until Apple actually announces them.

However these video do give us a better idea of what the phones look like and how they might look in your hand. Whether or not they are accurate remains to be seen, but at the very least they are consistent with the rumors that we have been hearing so far, namely in terms of their display size and its edge-to-edge design.

Apple is rumored to launch three new iPhone models this year, with one retaining the 5.8-inch iPhone X display size and design, while the other two models will feature a 6.1-inch iPhone that will use a full active LCD panel, and the other being a 6.5-inch iPhone with an OLED screen that could borrow some iPad-like features.

Lyft Challenges Customers To Live Without A Car For A Month

There are plenty of reasons not to get a car, such as saving money, where the cost of a car and maintenance and fuel can add up to be quite a lot. There is also an environmental factor where having less cars on the road can reduce CO2 emissions (assuming you aren’t driving an electric car).

However despite these benefits, plenty of people still would prefer having their own transport for the sake of convenience (and sometimes status), but Lyft wants to challenge that notion, so much so that they are offering 100 residents in Chicago $550 if they are willing to ditch their cars for a month.

Of course this won’t be free money and those who take part in this challenge will need to turn over their keys for 30 days. In exchange they will be given $300 in Lyft shared ride credit (which can only be used in carpools), $45 monthly Divvy bike-share passes, $100 in Zipcar credit, and $105 for “L” train and bus service.

According to David Katcher, Lyft’s general manager for the Midwest, “We are literally asking people to get rid of their cars. Basically, we’re giving people this opportunity to park their cars for 30 days, and here’s everything you need to get around this city.” This challenge will kick off in Chicago but there are plans to potentially bring it to Portland later this year as well.

Chinese Media Accuses Apple Of Not Doing Enough To Filter Illegal Content

If someone decides to use YouTube to post illegal content, whose fault is it, or rather who does the onus fall onto to prevent something like that from happening? Many have criticized YouTube in the past for allow such content to surface, and it looks like YouTube is not alone because over in China, Apple is facing similar criticisms.

In a report from The Wall Street Journal (paywall; via 9to5Mac), it appears that the state-run media in China have accused Apple of not doing enough to prevent illegal content from being distributed via its platform. This includes content such as porn, gambling, and promotion of counterfeit products. For example one of those criticisms claimed that Apple allowed gambling apps on its App Store that were disguised as an official lottery app.

Another criticism was leveled at Apple for iMessages where many iPhone users in China were being hit with spam messages via the service that were related to gambling. Now these aren’t just criticisms, but they also have implications behind them because according to Yang Zhaoquan, a lawyer with Beijing Vlaw Law Firm, authorities could potentially shut some of Apple’s functions down if they are found to be in violation.

Of course whether or not this will happen remains to be seen. Interestingly enough this is something that Apple is dealing with over in India as well. The company has been asked by the local government to allow an app that would prevent spam calls and messages, or potentially run the risk of the iPhone being banned from use on India’s carriers.

Nissan’s Rear Door Alert Reminds You To Check The Back Seat

Sometimes we can be forgetful, which is why there are instances in which you might have heard how sometimes parents put their toddlers or pets into the backseat of their cars, and when they reach their destination they can sometimes forget about it. This can be extremely dangerous but Nissan wants to solve that problem.

The company has announced a new feature called the Nissan Rear Door Alert (RDA) in which basically it reminds drivers to check their back seats whenever they get out of the car. How does this work? Basically when the car detects that you open the back door at the start of the trip (which assumes you might have put someone or something there) and that the back door is not opened at the end of the trip, it will alert the driver.

This will come in the form of a dashboard notification and also subtle chirps of the horn to let you know that you should check it, kind of like how there is a sound that lets you know when you’ve left your lights on. Developed by Nissan engineers Marlene Mendoza and Elsa Foley, the idea came about after a somewhat comical disaster involving lasagna that was accidentally left in the car’s back seat overnight.

According to Mendoza, “The idea was inspired when I accidentally left a pan of lasagna in the back seat of my car overnight. The worst thing was the car smelled for days, but it made me ask myself, ‘What if I left something far more important back there?'” Nissan’s RDA feature is expected to become a standard feature on all Nissan four-door vehicles by 2022, but in the meantime some of 2019’s models are expected to get the feature already.

Apple’s AirPods come with a case of its own. This case has been designed to not only keep your AirPods in place so you don’t lose them (assuming you don’t lose the case), but they also keep your AirPods charged. Now if you’re the type that likes to keep your gadgets in pristine condition, then maybe a case for the case might be worth considering.

Apple Reportedly Commands 8% Of China’s Smartphone Market

While there are some markets in which Apple dominates in, there are others in which the company is struggling. A good example would be in China in which according to recent data shared by Counterpoint Research, has revealed the extent in which the competition is besting Apple in the country.

According to the data, it appears that Apple’s market share in China is around 8%, which when you consider the market share of other companies, seems rather small. Based on Counterpoint’s analysis of the Chinese market, it looks like Huawei actually commands the lion’s share of the market at a whopping 40%.

This is followed by Xiaomi who commands 28%, and interestingly enough Apple comes in third at 8%. Other Chinese vendors such as Vivo and Oppo come in fourth and fifth at 7% and 6% respectively. However these top 5 brands do represent 84% of the market which is saying a lot, although there does not seem to be any mention of China.

According to research analyst Flora Tang, “E-commerce is now a key part of Apple’s channel strategy in China, contributing to almost a third of its total sales in China. Riding on the trend it was the third largest brand in terms of sales volume during the 618 festival. iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus surprisingly remained one of the popular and top selling models in China during Q2 2018.”

Facebook’s Mobile App Will Now Feature Personalized Navigation

Everyone uses Facebook differently. Some use it primarily for social purposes, such as keeping up with friends and family, while others use it for business, or some might even use it for shopping. Facebook understands this and in an announcement, the company revealed their plans to redesign their mobile app’s navigation bar.

This redesign will see Facebook start to personalize the navigation from user to user based on the features/services that they access frequently on Facebook. For example right now in the US, the navigation bar (bottom row for iOS, top of the screen for Android) consists of News Feed, Notifications, Menu, Watch, and Marketplace.

However in the future, these icons will change based on what you use the most. The initial rollout will see these icons change automatically, but Facebook states that eventually users will be able to change what they see and have more control over it. The number of icons will also vary and range between 4 to 6 icons, depending on your usage.

According to Product Manager Alexa Andrzejewski, “We want the shortcuts available in the navigation bar to reflect how an individual uses Facebook. To that end, we’re customizing mobile shortcuts so everyone can more easily connect with their most frequently used products.” These changes are expected to roll out in the coming weeks so don’t be surprised if your Facebook app’s navigation bar looks different.
