Sometimes the problem with furniture websites or websites that sell household items is that the products are pictured separate from each other. This is unlike how companies such as IKEA market their products, where they try to place it inside of a curated room/home so that buyers have an idea of how the furniture will look like against other household items.
This is seems to be something that Walmart is picking up on as the company has since announced a new feature on its website called the 3D Virtual Shopping Tour. According to Walmart, “Starting today, we’re testing a new experience that enables customers to take a virtual shopping tour of a curated apartment showcasing nearly 70 items from both national brands and our private label offerings. As they virtually explore the apartment, customers simply click on different products in each room to get more information.”
Basically what it does is that it lets shoppers view the inside of an apartment that is filled with various furniture and household items. Items that are available for purchase are shown with a yellow dot in which you can hover over it to get more information. It functions a bit like Google’s Street View where you can “walk” around the apartment to get different angles.
It will also play nice with virtual reality headsets such as Google Cardboard or the Samsung Gear VR. If you’d like to take it for a spin, head on over to Walmart’s website for the details.
