PUBG Fortnite Lawsuit Has Been Dropped

Bluehole’s Korean subsidiary PUBG recently filed a lawsuit against Epic Games for similarities between Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, two insanely popular battle royale titles. In an interesting turn of events, the PUBG Fortnite lawsuit has been dropped, but there’s nothing to suggest that a settlement has been reached between PUBG and Epic Games, the developer of Fortnite.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds quickly gained popularity last year. Fornite was previously available but Epic Games released its popular battle royale mode after PUBG was released. The Fortnite battle royale mode had features similar to PUBG which became the basis for this lawsuit. There was a complication as well. Epic licenses its Unreal Engine technology to PUBG which it used to create the battle royale mode for Fortnite as well.

Bloomberg now reports that the PUBG Fortnite lawsuit has been dropped but it’s unclear if there has been a settlement between the two companies even though Bluehole had previously said that it had “growing concerns” about the similarities between PUBG and Fortnite.

The report mentions that PUBG has sent a letter of withdrawal to Epic Games confirming that the South Korean case has been closed. PUBG and its law firm have confirmed that they have withdrawn the lawsuit but didn’t say why or if a settlement has been reached. Epic Games has not commented on the matter as well.
