Bethesda Hints That Sony Could Be Blocking Fallout 76 Crossplay

Back in the day games used to be exclusive to their respective platforms, but nowadays we’re starting to see more games open up to be cross-platform, meaning that PC gamers can play with Xbox gamers, Switch gamers play with PC gamers, and so on. Conspicuously missing from the list is Sony.

The company has famously disallowed crossplay between some of today’s biggest games, such as Minecraft, Fortnite, and now it looks like Bethesda’s upcoming Fallout 76 could be next. Speaking to German publication Gamestar.de in an interview, Bethesda’s Todd Howard hinted that Sony could be once again making it difficult for crossplay.

When asked about crossplay, Howard said that he would like to see that happen as it is a big trend in the industry. However he adds that Sony is “not as helpful as everyone would like it.” Like we said given Sony’s stance in the past, it’s not surprising that this is the case. However with every game that Sony is not allowing crossplay, we imagine that dissent will get larger to the point where Sony could be eventually pressured to give in.

Sony has since responded to their critics regarding crossplay support for Fortnite, in which they say that they are confident that they will eventually find a solution that will be “understood and accepted” by their gaming community. That being said considering that Fallout 76 is almost like an MMORPG in nature, it would be a shame if PS4 gamers weren’t able to play with gamers on other platforms.
