Nokia 8 ARCore Support To Arrive Soon

Google introduced its ARCore augmented reality platform not too long ago. It takes the baton from the company’s Project Tango which required specialized hardware. ARCore is a software-based AR platform which means it doesn’t require any special hardware to enable augmented reality experiences. ARCore has already gone live on a variety of smartphones from Samsung, LG, OnePlus, and Motorola. It will soon be arriving on the Nokia 8 as well.

HMD Global Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas has revealed via Twitter that the Nokia 8 will soon receive ARCore support. The feature is already live on the company’s Nokia 6.1, Nokia 7 Plus, and Nokia 8 Sirocco handsets.

The aforementioned devices can now access the growing library of ARCore-compatible apps and games available on the Google Play Store. The Nokia 8 will soon be able to access these apps as well. However, Sarvikas hasn’t confirmed precisely when ARCore support will go live for the Nokia 8.

The HMD Global devices that already support ARCore are part of its 2018 lineup. Nokia 8 Sirocco happens to be its current flagship smartphone. Nokia 8 was launched in September last year and it was HMD Global’s first Nokia-branded flagship smartphone. Those who own one can rest assured that their handset will soon get support for Google’s augmented reality platform as well.
