Some of us are old enough to remember Polaroid Instant Cameras. If you are too young to know what I’m talking about, they were cameras that developed instant pictures right when you snapped your shot. You could see them come to life before your eyes.
Prynt Concept
Prynt Pocket is a similar idea, except that it turns your smartphone into an instant camera. That doesn’t seem like a big deal by itself since there are other gadgets that do the same thing, but the difference here is that Prynt photos can have short video clips embedded inside so you can share your memories in a new way. Impressively, it also uses no ink.
Think of it as a Polaroid camera for the modern age. You can take a photo within the app or choose one from your camera roll and it prints in under 30 seconds. You can attach a video if you like and when someone scans it the secret is revealed.
Back in 2015, Prynt launched the Prynt Case and raised over $1.5 million on Kickstarter. This was followed by a second-generation version called the Prynt Pocket in May of 2017, which was a smaller and portable instant camera that fits into the palm of your hand. The latest incarnation is Prynt Pocket for Android.
How does this device print quality images while using no ink?
It uses Zink paper, which has dye crystals embedded into polymer coating. Through heat activation, these dyes disperse in the proper way and your image is printed. The print quality is surprisingly good.
I mean, we’re not talking professional film development, but for such a small device, it’s impressive. Naturally, there’s some blurriness and the colors are not as vibrant as they should be, but this gadget is about having some instant fun, not about iPhone quality photos.
I imagine this would come in handy for making photo collages to share with friends on special occasions. Just print a picture and include a video that captures those special moments that you shared together. It’s much more personal than a picture by itself. If that sounds good, you can pick up a Prynt Pocket for $149.99. Teens will fall in love with this gadget.
