Sony MP-CD1 Projector Review

Sony has a new pocket-sized projector that will come in handy for a number of activities, whether it’s movie night outside by the pool, business presentations, or playing video games that are projected on your wall, this new projector should have you covered. The ultra-portable MP-CD1 Mobile Projector is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, and it will project content up to 120 inches in size from a short distance of 3.5m.

Pros:

  • Ultra Compact
  • 2 hour runtime
  • ANSI 105 lumens2 brightness

Cons:

  • 854 × 480 resolution isn’t the greatest for entertainment, but for the rest it’s fine.
  • Between plugging in sound devices, HDMI etc, this small device gets cluttered and a bit cumbersome,
  • but we can’t really fault it for that. We just wish the ports could be more streamlined.

Ultra Portable, But Powerful

It’s great for projecting media while on the go with media-streaming dongles, smartphones, laptops or gaming consoles to have fun anywhere, at any time. The MP-CD1 is perfect for travelers who need to do presentations and when you are in your hotel you can enjoy large screen entertainment on the wall or ceiling. It sets up in as little as five seconds. As a nice bonus, it can also be used as a portable charger for your other mobile devices.

This device features Texas Instruments DLP3 IntelliBright technology to manage brightness and power consumption. It may be compact, but it offers high brightness (ANSI 105 lumens2) and minimal heat build-up. The 5000 mAh battery will give you up to 2 hours of projection time, which is all you need for most movies.

It may be a portable projector, but the size of the projected image depends on distance, but if you are going for the maximum size of 120 inches, you only need 11.32 feet. This means that just about any small room will be large enough. The standard audio jack lets you plug in your headphones or external speakers for entertainment.

Sony MP-CD1 Projector Review

This is a great compact projector.

Very Portable and Capable

Bottom Line: When they say ultra portable, they mean ultraportable. This projector is great for travelers or anyone who likes to take their entertainment on the go. And that 2-hour battery life is great for a travel gadget like this. It’s enough for a movie or a decent amount of gaming or presentations for business. This is pretty much the ideal compact projector. Keep it in a pocket and bring it out when you need it. This projector is a big win.

This is one of the best short throw projectors we’ve seen in a while.
