Facebook Could Introduce a ‘Time Spent’ Feature To Its Platform

A couple of months ago, it was reported that Instagram was testing out a new feature that would tell users how long they’ve spent on the app. Now it looks like Facebook is planning on introducing something similar as well, thanks to the eagle-eyed Jane Manchun Wong who shared her discovery on Twitter.

The feature isn’t live yet but there are signs to suggest that it is in the works. As you can see in screenshots shared by Wong, the feature will basically tell users how long they’ve spent on the app, and users will also be able to set notifications to let them know when they have exceeded the set time they’ve spent on Facebook.

While we imagine that companies like Facebook want users to spend all day on its platform as it is essentially eyeballs for more advertisers, there has been a growing call for tech companies to make their services and products less addictive. Google is introducing a similar feature to Android P and so is Apple who also announced a similar feature in iOS 12.

Now these features and reminders are just that, reminders. If you want to ignore the notifications and warnings or disable them completely, it’s up to you, but for those who think that they need the extra push to get off Instagram or Facebook, this feature looks like it could come in handy.
